3 Days in Marrakesh: the Perfect Itinerary
Three days is the sweet spot for Marrakesh: enough to see the essentials, eat memorably, get scrubbed in a hammam and still escape once to the Atlas or the desert. Here is the plan.
Day 1 - The Medina Classics
- Morning: Bahia palace early (before the groups), then the Saadian tombs and the Koutoubia gardens.
- Afternoon: get lost in the souks - dyers, metalworkers, babouche-makers. Read our bargaining guide first and you will enjoy it twice as much.
- Evening: Jemaa el-Fna at dusk - storytellers, musicians, orange juice, chaos and joy. Dinner on a rooftop overlooking the square.
Day 2 - Gardens, Art and the Hammam
- Morning: Majorelle garden + the Yves Saint Laurent museum (book online), then the calm of the Menara olive groves or Le Jardin Secret in the medina.
- Afternoon: a real Moroccan hammam - the perfect mid-trip reset.
- Evening: dinner in Gueliz (the new town) - Marrakesh's modern food scene, then rooftop cocktails (see where to drink).
Day 3 - Escape
Pick one from our day trips guide:
- Nature: Ourika valley or Imlil for Atlas air and Amazigh village lunch.
- Spectacle: Ouzoud waterfalls (full day).
- Desert taste: Agafay - camel at sunset, dinner in a camp, back by midnight.
Where to Stay
In the medina for the riad experience (courtyard, rooftop breakfast) - choose within 10 minutes of Jemaa el-Fna for easy nights. Gueliz/Hivernage for hotels with big pools and easy taxis. Cross-check our riad selection.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is 3 days enough for Marrakesh?
Yes - two days for the city and one for an escape covers the essentials without rushing. Add a fourth day if you want both a hammam afternoon AND Ouzoud.
Is Marrakesh walkable?
The medina is entirely walkable (and only walkable); for Gueliz and Majorelle grab petit taxis - insist on the meter (taxi guide).
