Surf in Morocco

The following is a list of the best surf spots in Morocco, the diversity of beaches makes Morocco an outstanding country for all levels of surfers.
The surfing season starts from October and lasts until late March, Most of the surf camp are located between Agadir and Essaouira.
There are hotels and camps to teach beginners, and to provide all the tools needed for professionals, this kind of camps are usually at the shore or just a few minutes away.

Safi wave

Also named 'the garden' after a small house (with a garden) on the beach, it was discovered in the late seventies by some French surfers, this spot remains secret for a long time, it is recommanded only for experienced surfers.

Getting there: Takes 2 hours 20 minutes from Marrakesh by car.

Taghazoute

One of the well known spots is Taghazoute some call it the surf city, for the it's amazing waves and consistency. It has gained the attention of surfers from all around the globe since the 60's.

Getting there: The beach is located a few minutes away from the village of Taghazoute, If you are in Agadir, you can take a taxi or the no. 32 bus. travelling time 30 minutes by car (20 km).

Boilers

For experienced surfers only, the wave is a powerful right hander and there is a lot of sea urchin and sharp rocks, around Boilers there are no facilities.

Getting there: Located about 1 km South the light house of Cap Rhir.

Dracula's

Nice spot named after it's razor-sharp teeth-like rocks underneath the surface.

Getting there: The spot is located about 700 meters North Boilers spot.

Tamri

If you are looking for consistent waves, Tamri is the place you want to go to. Suitable for all levels of surfers. It's a third destination after Taghazoute and Agadir especially during the summer, the sand banks are very nice which makes it an appropriate place just to relax and get a break. Tamri beach is located near the Tamri National Park known for being a refuge for flamingos.

Getting there: Tamri is a mall town, the spot is located North Tamri National Park, 10 km North Boilers spot

Killer Point

Hippies have found this place captivating and named it 'Killer Point' after the killer whales (Orcinus Orca) spotted in this area.

Getting there: From Agadir Get the no. 32 bus or a Taxi into Taghazoute

The Beach of Essaouira

Just the place of a beginner surfer or intermediate, where there are different swell sizes, when it's big you surf near the port, and when it's small you can go all the way to the other side of the beach by the lighthouse side.

Getting there: 5 minutes walk from the city center.

Sidi Kaouki

A small village in the South of Essaouira. In front of the large main beach, a small square with two surf shops, some small restaurants / snacks. But also camels and donkeys. This spot is not necessarily the most interesting. It is better to go a few hundred meters north to find quality waves but not easy to access, you ought to ask the local residents of the place. There's Cave, the Crown and the bottle. Each wave has its peculiarities.

Getting there: Takes 30 minutes by car from Essaouira via the N1.

Imessouane - The Bay

A very famous place in Imessouane, with perfect sand banks for beginners, the best surfing time is at low tide. There are surf guides with a deep knowledge of the place in terms of it's swells, tides, winds, and bottoms, at your service to help you get an amazing surf experience according to your level and request.

Getting there: Eastern Cape province of South Africa, about an hour's drive south-west of Port Elizabeth.

Anchor point

The most famous surf spot due it's clean lines and consistent waves on all tides. The swells can go from 3ft up to 15ft. This surf break is a mix of sand and reef bottom with 3 different sections where you can go for cover ups and turns at the first two sections and the last one just gets quite hollow and fast. It can be a long wave of about 300m to 500m. It's definitely a 'To Do' wave.

Getting there: Eastern the Port of Imsouane.
