Campsites in Morocco

Camping in Morocco is cheap, safe and spectacular: expect to pay about 30-70 dirhams per person per night at an official campsite, with sites strung along the whole Atlantic coast, through the Atlas and out to the Sahara. The season never really closes - the coast is mild all winter, which is why thousands of European motorhomes migrate here every year.

Is Wild Camping Allowed in Morocco?

There is no blanket right to camp anywhere. In practice: tolerated in remote nature (desert fringes, Atlas valleys) especially with the landowner's or village's blessing - and often the local gendarmerie will simply check on you; avoid it near cities, tourist beaches and guarded zones, where you will be moved on. When in doubt, ask - Moroccans will usually point you to a safe spot or invite you onto their land. Many travelers alternate campsites (for showers and laundry) with the occasional wild night.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does camping in Morocco cost?

Budget 50 - 150 dirhams per night for two with a vehicle - among the cheapest comfortable travel there is. A month on the coast in a motorhome, campsite fees included, costs less than a week of hotels.

Is camping in Morocco safe?

Yes - campsites are guarded, the snowbird community is huge and welcoming, and rural Morocco is remarkably hospitable. Take normal precautions with valuables, as anywhere.

When is the camping season?

October to April on the coast and in the desert; May to September in the Atlas and the north. Check the climate by city and pack accordingly.
